A Special Invitation from The Canadian Studies Center of the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies from the University of Washington, Seattle

Nadine Fabbi, the Managing Director of the Canada Studies Center of the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, sent an invitation to Avataa to do a presentation at their Arctic Indegenious Economies in Canada Workshop. The invitation came at the suggestion of Jean-Francois Arteau who is a Fellow at the University of Washington. The presentation was to discuss the realities faced by small businesses in Northern Canada. This invitation gave Avataa the opportunity to present and introduce the challenges and the rewards of owning and operating a business in the North. Among the group invited from Northern Canada, were Andy Moorhouse, Vice President, Economic Develoment, Makivik Corporation; Sean Lyall, Minister of Culture, Recreation and Tourism of Nunatsiavut Government; and Burton Ayles, Canada Member, Canada/Inuvialuit Fisheries Joint Management Committee. At the workshop were members from the Korea Maritime Institute who helped fund the workshop and various Graduate Students from the University of Washington.

This was the first international exchange that Avataa had the privelege of experiencing. Below you will find the link to the video clip of the interviews that we had with the graduate students at the end of the workshop.
